Lieutenant Colonel Mohanlal received the Sri Chithira Thirunal award for 2009 from Chief of Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor in Thiruvananthapuram.
Mohanlal went emotional as he received the award from the army chief and said: “ My heart overflows with pride and happiness on receiving this award which carries the legacy of a great Maharaja.”
Instituted by the Sree Chithira Tirunal Trust in memory of the erstwhile King of Travancore, the award carries a cash prize of Rs One Lakh and a citation.
The award which was first announced in 2006 is in honour of individuals who have made exceptional contributions in art, science, literature, medicine, education and cinema.
